A tender-hearted and compassionate young woman, Sarah Granger runs the Second Avenue Mission for Needy Children in New York City. One night, Sarah and a neighborhood policeman, Benjamin McCauley, find a young boy crouching in a deserted alley, clutching a basket that contains a small baby and a beautiful quilt. Though the mission has fallen on hard times, Sarah doesn't hesitate to take in the two motherless youngsters -- and Benjamin, touched by Sarah's gentle ways, vows to protect them all. Sarah is busy teaching her charges how to stitch beautiful quilts, but she is distracted by Benjamin's kindness and charm -- and together they craft an unlikely and precious love...
