The AXIS superhero novels are a darkly comic take on the superhero and the supervillain. Here, high comedy is merged with low comedy with black comedy with speculative satire with blockbuster multiplex-level masked + caped action.
Brutalia is the only city where superpowers exist. There the superheroes of AXIS war with the supervillains of the Order of Social Domination, led by the depraved Dr. Playground. Dr. Playground returns after his cloning to recapture his evil and rebuild his evil empire.
AXIS is led by Spinrax, a one-man superhero team named for the comic book racks he turned in his youth; his superpower is becoming the superheroes of those epic comic books...but only for a few hours each month, "the Cinderella Factor." He proves a man can have more than one alter ego but it could get him killed more often. His superheroes include The Blue Boss, god of police, and Martian Justice, whose mode of justice consists of his infinitely varying degrees of head-severing.
Now there is a third organization, O.U.T.S.I.D.E., devoted to creating Utopia on Earth, run by a woman made of mysteries dating back to World War Two. AXIS also takes on a brutally sadistic new supervillain named The Tears of Jack Kirby who specializes in dragging dead superheroes through the streets of Brutalia.
This darkly comic epic covers identity-shifting, history, love, life, death, addiction, alien unknowability and recycling of the dead.
Book One is BIG SUPERHERO ACTION.
Book Two is WORLD WAR CITY, in which dark comedy goes from darker to apocalyptic.
Book Three is BAG OF GREEN ARMY MEN, in which the superheroes and supervillains are trapped inside the world of a WW2 comic book.
Book Four is LASH BRAVO, in which the Axis novel goes Old West Steampunk.
