Life is not algebra but in life sometimes, just sometimes, two minuses make a plus.Two strangers, Emma and Will, are divided by a misfortune and feelings of pain that only they can understand. Two of their parents have been involved in a tragic road accident leaving them on opposite sides of a tragedy. They go on with their lives but Will feels forced to make contact and delivers a hand written note (words on paper) to Emma in an effort communicate the empathy he feels for her and her family. Emma dismisses the letter, which her best friend Lucy struggles to understand. Meanwhile Will's best friend, Ben, is embarking on a new career as a stand up comedian and Will agrees to join him when Ben signs up for a two week slot at the Edinburgh Festival. By the time Will returns home Lucy has managed to get Emma to read his letter; so Will and Emma arrange an uncomfortable meeting wherein they push their feeling to one side - the tragedy seemingly too big a hurdle to overcome.But as Ben points out, Life is not algebra, and sometimes, just sometimes two minuses make a plus. and every so often an uneven broken road can lead people from tragedy to happiness. A modern love story, with hard edges, as two people battle through their mutual history to find each other.
