Meet Annie O'Hara, antiques dealer, bed-and-breakfast owner, and adoptive mother to a very smart, very stubborn German shepherd/husky mix named Claudius. Together, they sniff out clues and criminals. But this time, Annie's beloved pooch goes astray -- and tracking him down leads to trouble.

The minute Annie turns her back, Claudius runs away. A week later, she finally finds him nosing around a frozen lake. Turns out he stumbled upon the drowned body of Rocky Martinez, a local thief and former handyman for Annie's alma mater. Soon Annie discovers that Rocky's death is linked to the "accidental" death of a beloved English teacher. With help from her wisecracking friend Cary, a local detective and potential love interest Gus Jackson, and of course, her cunning companion, Claudius, Annie must solve this mystery -- before someone else plays dead...for good.
