Bessy Higgins is gone, and all those who are left behind are now mourning the loss. Not only has Nicholas lost his beloved daughter, but he is not the only parent to suffer a loss of a child. The aftermath of the strike has brought more tragedy to the Boucher family, Thornton must recover from Margaret's rejection, and all are trying to cling to the hope that they need to recover.
