Victoria Stratford's birthday party for her husband David is a resounding success. It shows off their beautiful house, their wonderful children, their perfect lives. And it conceals the ambitions and deceits that haunt their Marriage.

Victoria's sisters Clara and Annie have very different lives. Clara, a university lecturer, is married to the idealistic Tom; Annie is so overwhelmingly in love with Hugo that she can put up with his jealous and possessive mother.
