Imagine fading out from a world you know and fading into a world you don't. That's what happens to teen Virgil West, a resident of planet Earth who is soon about to become a resident of…somewhere else.
Once he does fade out, to the consternation of the authorities, he finds himself on an alternate Earth, links up with other survivors, and together they try to forge a new life. However, human nature cannot be denied, and among the survivors are those who cannot and will not accept being with others. It is up to Virgil to keep the peace as well as resolve the mystery of where he was abducted to—and why.
