There were few things Renait O'Brien resented more than interference with her family. Sheriff Tyler clearly meant to help, but removing her siblings to foster homes was unnecessary. She had looked after the children since the murder of their parents, and they were the light of her life. No one would ever take them from her -- especially not a busybody lawman, no matter how dark his eyes or chiseled his features. And any who tried would feel her wrath. She trusted only herself.

Sheriff Tyler of Pheasant Gully had a burr in his britches named Renait O'Brien. The redhead was as fiery as they came, but to him she was cold as a wintry day. Then arrived a warning of great danger, and as Renny set out to save her half-Sioux brother, Tyler saw the chance of a lifetime: to accompany the young beauty across the prairie, and to give her something to believe in.
