About This Book

Visions, nightmares, communicating with mysterious visitors from the past... If this is part of twelve-year-old Jinx Mackenzie's 'special gift,' she wants nothing to do with it. White Doe in the Mist: The Mystery of the Lost Colony is a lively and humorous mystery that keeps Jinx, her Jack Russell terrier Petey, and her new friend Max scrambling for clues. While vacationing on Roanoke Island, North Carolina with her mother, Jinx must write a research paper to pass her 'boring old history' class. She becomes intrigued by the mystery surrounding England's Lost Colony of 1587, founded on Roanoke Island by Sir Walter Raleigh under a charter from Queen Elizabeth I.

Jinx discovers that she has special powers when she is drawn back in time by Orville Wright while on a visit to the Wright Bros Memorial at Kill Devil Hills, NC.

In her adventures, Jinx meets meets fascinating people from years gone by including the Indian Chiefs Manteo, of the Croatoans, Wanchese of the Roanacs, and Virginia Dare the first child born of English parents on the American continent.

Amidst the struggles of figuring out what these characters form the past want, and what could have happened to those early colonists who disappeared without a trace, she learns a new respect for the dauntless pioneers of our past. Jinx and her fearless sidekicks of the JMP History Mystery Detective Agency, also manage to solve a four hundred year old mystery in the process.
