This book includes history, sarcasm, joy, sadness and many hilarious nature escapades. When the main character is nicknamed Rascal, you know this is a book to keep you on your toes. Rascall goes off to war and returns home to find that his life has changed in many ways...which he will have to get accustomed to. He continues to be the best hunting guide in all of Whiskey Jack Lake and has many adventures including with the local game warden and out-of-state sports looking for a trophy. Prohibition and Women's Suffrage are common topics of conversation, and cause some interesting conversations and acts with the local townspeople in a mill town where walking and canoeing are the main forms of transportation, besides the train. Rascal's wife, Emma, had to learn to become independent while maintaining a household, while Rascal was away at war, and followed the law every step of the way. Her strict rules come to catch up with her when she least expects it.
