About This Book

K-Gr 2These simply written overviews have large, bold, easy-to-read texts that highlight child-friendly aspects of the topics. Much of Caves , for example, is devoted to animal life. Stalactites and stalagmites are described as icicles and lumpy towers . . . made by dripping water. Rainbows uses the most specialized vocabulary of the three books when it compares a raindrop to a prism. The color photos are generally clear and appropriate, although some are too small to be effective. These are serviceable introductions, but if you already have the comparable titles in the Rookie Read-about Science series (Children's Press), you can skip them.—Carol S.
