About This Book

Jose and Rosa Lopez have a nice home in Miami, FL, have nice kids, and after 3 generations from Cuba, have become part of the middle class. Their friends, however, are a bit weird. They tell Jose he could be paid $1,000 for a weekend for the use of his home in filming an art documentary. Jose and Rosa's son goes to Harvard. The nice college costs a nice piece of change and agrees to his home being used while Rosa visits her daughter. Jose gets screwed. NICELY The ""art"" film is an incredible hard-core flick. His friends are backers, whose wife makes sandwiches between takes and spends the rest of her time doing strange things on Jose's pool table. The nice producer is an old hand at conning everyone; a real gift for reassuring all concerned even while waving goodbye from a plane. The D.A. is a nice man trying to clean up his community and to do so, he subpoenas 78% of the East Coast, 94% of the West Coast, and 1 sub-continent. Rosa believes there is meaning to life: a full stomach, logic, and her grandchildren. Manuel, Jose and Rosa's son, a Harvard hippy law student, wants to engineer his father's case into establishing a Constitutional precedent. Sandra, the daughter, wants Poppa to think of the grandchildren and forget the whole thing. Jose wants to have a sick headache. VULTURES and PIGEONS asks many of the crucial questions appearing in today's headlines: When is it pornography? If you don't like it, do I gotta? Is there meaning to it all? Can a small Cuban family in Miami beat the powers that are armed only with fear, trepidation, a cancelled check and a pan of still-warm apple pie?
