I had been a soldier in the King’s army, but then I became a mercenary, a sword for hire. I followed the smell of blood and I gloried in killing. The money was usefulâ€"whores, drink, more weaponsâ€"such things must be paid for. But I didn’t do it for the money.
“I did it for love.
“I would like to say that this is my story, but I am a modest, and an honest man, so in truth this tale is a window into a world, which is open for a short time before the wind blows it in. Vulture Returns is the first of a series of short stories entitled Ten Tasks for the Vulture.
