For twenty-one years of Queen Victoria's reign she was married to a German Prince who was as responsible for the nation's renaissance as the monarch herself. Victoria and Albert had nine children and the family became the archetype of the nineteenth century. But the relationship between the Queen and her Prince Consort was passionate and turbulent; thunderous rows threatened to tear them apart, but always reconciliation and love broke through.
