About This Book

This is a story about change initiated by caring people rather than a dependence on experts or authorities. It reminds us that we are all models for one another through our words and deeds. And that effective change does not come about by manipulation, fighting or controlling others but by employing patience, common sense and calling up the best that we can be, as portrayed by Linda's neighbors, Carmen and her family. Through showing the difficulties of a horrendous life experience we are able to see that people living these types of lives are not bad or lazy people, and that we would all do better if only we knew how. The story is meant as a reminder to the reader that the way a child is raised not only affects the future of the child and the life of the parents, it also impacts our society and world. It shows that there is always more than one path, more than one choice. It is a story about the beliefs one harbors and their long-range effects that visit generation upon generation
