A Southern girl in war torn Georgia meets a Union Captain whose company is to meet up with the Union Army of Sherman's 'March to the Sea' at Savannah, in 1864. As the Union troops bivouac on her family's rundown plantation, he discovers the family of three daughters and their widowed mother are being held captive by a corrupt scoundrel who has masqueraded as a Confederate Colonel, Union Captain, and Texas cattleman as he traveled the South taking advantage of women left alone on the homefront as their men valiantly fought, and died for 'the Cause'. He robbed them of anything of valule left in their possession, ate their food and demanded their servitude, often leaving them to live more destitue than before. If he could not charm the women to give him what he wanted, then he took them by force, and oft left them with a babe inside, to live their lives in shame and scorn with an unwanted child as a constant reminder of this devilish man. Captain Captain Jeremy discovers that these unfortunate women are being held captive in their own home as a result of their charitable kindness to an injured soldier of the South, who reveals he is anything but someone deserving of their tender care and hospitality. Captain Campbell develops a plan to rid these ladies of the parasite who has attached himself to them, proving that sometimes the enemy is much closer than you suspect. He is immediately attracted to the middle daughter whose strong character, bravery and quick thinking indicate she is the true head of the household, as her mother withdraws to the shadows of hate and despair.
