Mary was stunned by Gavin's harsh words and accusations. The man she knew and loved could not be so hateful, which meant, she didn't know Gavin at all. She still clung to the part of the man she loved, but she did not wish to know the angry, resentful man before her. He was the exact opposite of the man she had fallen in love with.

Why would he hurt his own daughter simply because she had fallen in love with an actor? She understood that a long-term marriage was unlikely with an actor, but the abuse he was currently inflicting upon his daughter was far more damaging than the eventual breakup that the two would incur.

Nor could she understand why he was so angry with her. It was not as if she had a say in whom Ches liked. Honestly, she couldn't make sense of his behavior just now.
