Michael Winslow, the Duke of Fairfax, must oblige to the duty of his dukedom -- and his nagging grandmother. It is time to find a suitable bride who will bear him an heir. Normally this would be a simple task, yet Michael wants a bride who loves him for who he is and not his lofty title.

There is one woman who piques his interest -- Lady Deborah Woodhurst, who might just possess the sort of love expected of a proper wife. The problem is that Lady Deborah's scheming twin, Lady Diana, who is not necessarily her better half, has far more self-serving motives in mind.
