Troubled Waters

Woodcombe was a quiet village until Edward Tuke came to visit. The polite unassuming young American managed to meet several people in the short time before he was found murdered in Manor Woods, not far from a local Bronze Age statue.

Many people wondered if they could have prevented his death. Tuke had come to Woodcombe to meet James Fordyce, a well-known genealogist who he hoped would be able to trace his English roots for him. He had also been introduced to Rodney and Amaryllis Kenway-Potter who owned the largest house in the village. But no one could trace any connection between him and Leonard Bolling, a retired bookseller, who was most unpopular in the village but was on the point of moving away when his house was set on fire, soon after Tuke's death.

In Troubled Waters Elizabeth Lemarchand has woven another splendid tale which is eventually solved by Detective-Chief Superintendent Tom Pollard in his usual fascinating way.
