With Bud and Junebug now safely out of the war, they embark on a harrowing trip that stretches from Independence, Missouri, to Washoe City, Nevada.

Their intent is to drive a herd of about sixty head of horses and mules to the lumber camps at the foot of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, where they are assured of selling the animals at a handsome profit. Easy enough...right?

They are accompanied by members of the old outfit and they all do their darndest to keep the herd safe by fighting off henchmen of the notorious Tommy Drum's gang of army deserters who are intent on stealing the herd.

Along the way, they take in a pretty little gal named Polly Adams, whose parents were killed during an attack on their ill-fated wagon train.

After she is taken captive by one of Drum's men, (their old nemesis, Tom Akers) Bud and Junebug set out to find and rescue her while being drawn into a search that can end in only one of two ways, either Akers will have to die, or...
