While in New York City, where they testified in the murder trial of a suspect they helped apprehend, Patrick and Trudy Dylan, along with their new partner, Jeff Byrd, discover that the mutant community they battled in Lake Lanier and Dawson Forest is far larger and spread much further than the mountains of northern Georgia.
Through the mutants ability to communicate telepathically and with the help of Patrick's cousin, Bottom Dweller Duncan Dylan, they are able to find out that the mutants are not only in the U.S., but also in other countries around the world. They are now enlisting the assistance of those from the spirit world as well, and what started as a mere battle has now become a full-fledged war.
