Seventeen-year-old Sarah Janson has trained for months in anticipation of this day. She and her father are part of a small expedition that will attempt to climb Alaska's Mount McKinley. Sarah is athletic, competitive and sure she has what it takes to survive frigid cold, lethal crevasses, avalanches that can happen without warning.

But Sarah's journey is one that takes her deep inside herself as well. A child of divorce, her relationship with her father has been a distant one and now she dreads what will happen to it if she fails on this climb. Yet as they make their way to the top of America's tallest mountain, Sarah's view of her father—and of her own life—expands along with the majestic landscape that surrounds them.
