There she stood, wearing black slacks and a white blouse, with a total look of surprise on her face when she saw me. She stepped back into the room.I stepped in and slammed the door behind me. She backed up even farther but I ran forward and pushed her hard onto the floor between a sofa and a table and pinned her shoulders down. "What, no welcoming remarks for old times' sake like hi John, it's great to see you again? You aren't shy all of a sudden are you Claudia? You didn't seem too shy the last time I saw you"She shook her head slowly. "Nobody asked you to come into that room. You should have stayed where you were John. Things would have been better."I continued to hold her down. She made no effort to get up. "And that would have made everything all right I suppose," I said."It would have made things easier—for you.""Such concern for my welfare. I'm so grateful. What did you do with the body?""You mean Willy? I put it in the woods. Willy wasn't planned. I was getting very weak and I needed a donor. He was going to die soon anyway.""What the hell are you?!""Why ask? You saw what I am. Didn't you like it? Do you need for me to explain it too?""You're evil!""I do what I have to. I don't need your opinion anyway. What the hell do you know anyway—you and your saintly little world.""I know what I am and I know what I saw.""And why are you here now? I suppose you're here to put everything right with the world again. The good Samaritan.""Maybe I wanted to look evil straight in the face.""Or maybe you just wanted to see me again.""You flatter yourself Claudia.""It was beautiful once, wasn't it?""Once upon a time is for fairy tales Claudia."She smiled. "Then why are you here John?"I scanned that pretty face. "To stop you Claudia.""Oh, I see. But you can't John. You can't," she whispered."This world wasn't meant for anything like you Claudia. There's only one destination for you Claudia," I said with a definite sad tone in my voice."There's such sorrow in your voice John when you say that. Regrets?""Sorrow? Regret? Maybe. But determination also.""I've missed you John. Parting is such sweet sorrow my love."I could feel the warmth of her body under me as I had so many times before. "Oh you could have been a magnificent being Claudia—if only……..""If only I were human. If only, if only.""You're right Claudia. There are no ifs, only what is.""That's right. There are no ifs, only reality. Just you and me, here and now. No one else but us John. No one else to care what we are and what we do my love. You are what you are and I am what I am. Accept it. Accept it," she said ever so softy and seductively. For a moment, I was captured again within that pleasant mental image of what I thought she had been, which seemed so long ago now, but I shook it off. "No Claudia, it's not right. We ended. You and I are from different worlds and they'll never come together."
