About This Book

Annie French Malone, Mrs. Hector (1825-1902), who wrote under the pseudonym Mrs. Alexander, was a popular Irish author. In 1845 she became a magazine writer with encouragement from Mrs. Anna Maria Hall, issuing her first novel, Look Before You Leap, in 1865. Typically her fiction revolves around a young girl torn between money, family, and love, complicated by a legacy; strong benevolent providence. Her works include: Which Shall It Be? (1866), Temple Bar (1873), The Wooing O't (1873), Her Dearest Foe (1876), Heritage of Langdale (1877), The Freres (1882), Executor (1883), Valerie's Fate (1884), A Second Life (1885), Mona's Choice (1887), A Life Interest (1887), A Crooked Path (1889), Woman's Wit (1891), Blind Fate (1891), A Ward in Chancery (1894), A Choice of Evils (1895), A Golden Autumn (1896), Mrs. Crichton's Creditor (1897), A Fight with Fate (1898), Barbara: Lady's Maid and Peeress (1898), The Cost of Her Pride (1899), The Step-Mother (1900), Through Fire to Fortune (1900), A Missing Hero (1901), and Kitty Costello (her autobiography) (1902).
