Racing to complete her doctoral research, Elizabeth MacPherson is completely booked for the summer -- until her Scottish fiance calls from across the seas with a once-in-a-lifetime invitation to tea with Her Majesty the Queen. In between Elizabeth's fittings and flowers, local widow Clarine Mason receives word that her dear husband, Emmet, has died on a highway in San Diego. Odd, thinks Mrs. Mason, as the errant Emmet died five years before. And she's got an urn of ashes to prove it.
