The Watersplash

Typically, Miss Silver came into the Greenings affair in the most casual manner, with the innocent desire to do no more than match some wool for her niece. All too soon she found herself immersed in a furiously perplexing case of blackmail, jealousy, and greed involving two contradictory wills, two competing would-be heirs, and two suspicious drownings.

Both fatalities took place on a Friday night exactly one week apart. Both victims shared a common knowledge each could have used to his or her advantage. Both scenes had been set for murder around the local watersplash, with the church standing high above it.

Miss Silver found precious little in the way of hard clues. All she knew was that there was no reason for the murderer to strike again. On the other hand, there could be a grave and insistent reason. Only the murderer would know...
