About This Book

The Veteran is a historical narrative about an incident that happened in 1824-1825 in southeastern Indiana. Samuel Fields, an 85-year-old veteran of the Revolutionary War, wounded Robert Murphy, a constable who was acting in the line of duty. The old man was incarcerated in the log jail in the county seat of Brookville for the duration of the winter. That spring, Fields was found guilty and sentenced to hang. His patriotic heroism and service to his country brought forth pleas of mercy and the matter was dumped into the hands of Governor James Brown Ray, a charismatic and flamboyant figure who also lived in Brookville. The Veteran is a real-life story with twists and turns that Hollywood will love!
