The Unwinding Corner

This is the story of Shanne Gregg, a girl born and brought up in a changing Ireland, from the turn of the century to the First World War. The daughter of a country doctor, she works in the Convalescent Home of Screebogue, tending to wounded British soldiers—and Irish rebels who come calling in the night, tapping on the window for help, swearing her to secrecy. Then Gareth Chandos, a shell-shocked survivor of trench warfare, comes into her life. A descendant or Richard Chandos, her of the Siege of Limerick, he helps her to understand Irish history and her own divided self. They hope to find happiness together, but can love triumph over politics and war?
