About This Book

When Dr. Benjamin Levy insisted on meeting Devon MacDonald, the thirty-three-year-old fledgling P.I. was surprised. Most of the clients dealt with the male half of Sherman and MacDonald Private Investigators. But for this case, she was uniquely qualified....

Ben and Gloria Levy's eight-year-old boy is dying of leukemia and Devon is their last hope. As a medical student, Ben donated to a sperm bank; now he wants sharp-witted Devon to quickly track down any children he might have fathered--a possible match for a critical bone marrow transplant. The case is a difficult one for Devon, who is on her own after an accident robbed her of her son. So far, she's steered clear of new emotional liabilities...she wants to say no, but she can't.

Some sympathetic fast-talk gains her access to the records she needs. They point to a teenager named Tyler Hoffman, living right there in Minneapolis-St. Paul. But the boy's timid mother says no to the transplant procedure and paints a dark, violent picture of her husband. He knows nothing about Tyler's origin and would kill her if he learned the truth. Soon after Devon breaks this disturbing news to the Levys, the hot-tempered Mr. Hoffman is found dead. Benjamin Levy is arrested for murder...and Devon is drawn into a twisted and deadly labyrinth....
