About This Book

PreS-Gr 2-Jolie's dog Henriette used to be an excellent truffle hound. Lately, she has not been able to sniff out the underground fungi, so Grandfather decides to take her to Paris to trade her in for another dog. Jolie is very distressed until an unexpected encounter at the elegant Hotel clair proves Henriette's worth and demonstrates emphatically that the dog can still hunt. The Devlins are a tried-and-true children's book team, and their latest offering has definite appeal. The watercolor-and-ink illustrations are clear and bright, the characters well conceived and economically drawn, and the ending satisfactory. The story is slight but amusing and might be of use when doing a classroom unit on France.-Judy Constantinides, East Baton Rouge Parish Main Library, LA
