The Trials of Remy Babbage

HAMPSHIRE ENGLAND 1736. Seventeen year old Remy Babbage is falsely accused of witchcraft by an aristocratic lady who fears she may challenge her inheritance. She goes on the run with her husband whom she had married just hours earlier but they are betrayed by her best friend, the one person she thought she could trust. She is held in jail where she gives birth in filth and squalor, enduring a cesarean without anesthetic, and after being tortured and forced to witness her husband's brutal execution she is then brought to trial. The WITCHCRAFT ACT is to be repealed at midnight and a thrilling battle of wills develops between the Judge and the Witchfinder Elkanah Drews. The Judge is keen for the trial to overrun and allow Remy to go free but the Witchfinder wants to proceed as fast as he can to secure a conviction, her death, and his bounty. Then, just before midnight, Remy confesses.
