The Trap

At one time I had considered myself a serious hunter. But after an African Safari experience in the Zambezi river basin, I gave up hunting animals or birds for good. In fact you could say that I became something of an anti-hunting campaigner. Fishing however did not seem such a cruel blood sport. Anyway, I convinced myself that it was morally acceptable and I enjoyed eating fish; so, I only caught what I could eat and no more The story I have told in this novel is mostly based on true events. But as all authors know, to make the narrative dramatic and interesting to read one has to invent some fictional drama. The characters of Bill Robi and of Pamela are real. These are people I have known and befriended during my Hollywood years. Bill Robi was the manager of the First National bank in Hollywood and we became friends after he admired my car, a unique four-door Maserati. Bill owned the beautiful fishing boat, La Belle Epoch. The boat and the memory of my dear friend Bill were the inspiration to write this novel.
