The Tobacco Festival

J.J. Bear edits a magazine devoted to the supernatural but doesn't believe a word he prints until he returns, for the first time, to the hometown of his youth. Recalling happy memories while visiting with old friends, he attends an annual festival which celebrates the area's cash crop, tobacco. There he meets Gemma, the seemingly innocent little daughter of an old love. She is only eight years old, but after watching both her grandfathers die from lung cancer, she has developed a deep hatred for the substance that caused their demise. She then uses unrealized powers, inherited from her unexplainable ancestors, the Melungeons, to wreak havoc on the local tobacco industry and its promoters. J.J. Bear's new memory will keep him awake nights.
