Hays, Kansas is a peaceful town - and that's how Deputy Marshal Rowry Saxon likes it. He has enough problems at home: his father is practically an invalid, and his little brother Ord is running wild with three of the meanest characters around. So, if the most exciting part of Rowry's job is running in the drunks on Saturday night, that's fine with him. But sometimes drunks carry guns. When Chubby Inman draws on Rowry, he has no choice but to shoot back - fatally. Though he's cleared of any guilt, certain townsfolk don't seem to understand why.
