About This Book

Quiver, Oklahoma, is a pretty town with an ugly secret.

IT'S THE EARLY 1960s AND FRANNIE HAS NEVER GIVEN much thought to the color of her skin—until an African-American girl named Celeste moves to town. Celeste's father breaks all of Quiver's unofficial rules. He buys a house in the white part of town and sends Celeste to Frannie's all-white school. At first Frannie treats Celeste just like everyone else does—she ignores her. But when the two girls are chosen to be in a special vocal. ensemble, they find themselves becoming friends. However, Frannie soon realizes that others in town are not so quick to accept the idea of racial integration. Will a dark secret that Frannie discovers about Quiver's past threaten the future of her friendship with Celeste?
