Slocum's instructions from the marshal are too easy: deliver a stolen deed to a mine's rightful owner. But when Gold Hill's owner gets croaked right after naming a new foreman, Slocum doesn't have to see a tail to smell a rat. Foreman McBean takes the law into his own hands and cruelly hangs two blameless Indians for the murder. So Slocum starts baiting his trap...

But the townspeople are quick to rally around McBean, convinced that an avenging war party could raid Snake Gulch any minute. And Slocum soon finds out that if you're fool enough to be against McBean, the next thing you might be is dead!
