Calochortus invenustus subspecies westii--an exquisitely beautiful wildflower better known as the shy tulip--may he all that stands between a precious California forest and the logging industry. Botanist Claire Sharples has been asked by an environmental group to search for the endangered bloom among the giant sequoias. But before she can say spotted owl, a flowernapper steals the plant and a pretty activist is found killed. Claire--a specialist in blight, wilt, and rot--finds she has the perfect credentials for investigating a dirty business like homicide.
