About This Book

Arthur Leo Zagat was born February 15th, 1896 in New York City.

A graduate of City College, he served in Europe for the US military during World War I. From there he studied at Bordeaux University and then graduated from Fordham Law School.

Although now trained in Law he gave it up for a career as a writer. He collaborated with his fellow lawyer Nat Schachner and those pieces have garnered much acclaim. By himself he wrote another 500 stories. These appeared in all manner of the pulp magazines from Thrilling Wonder Stories, Argosy, Dime Mystery Magazine, Horror Stories to Operator No. 5 and Astounding.

Zagat was also the author of the ‘Doc Turner' stories that appeared in The Spider pulp magazine during the 30's. He would also use the pseudonym "Morgan La Fay".

Later he taught writing at New York University and, in 1941, he was elected to the first-ever national executive committee for the Authors League pulp writers' section.

World War II was spent in an executive position in the Office of War Information. With the war's end he helped organize writers' workshops and as well as assistance for hospitalized veterans.

Zagat was married to Ruth Zagat and had a daughter; Hermine.

Arthur Leo Zagat died of a heart attack on April 3rd, 1949, at his home in the Bronx aged 53.
