When spirited Willa Quentin's father dies, she vows to hold on to the Double Q ranch -- determined somehow to earn the money she needs to meet the next mortgage payment.

All the men in the valley smugly warn her that running a ranch was too much of a job for a young woman alone. Even Claude, the rugged Double Q foreman she loves and hopes to marry, tries to discourage her. Undaunted, Willa only holds her head up higher in determination, her russet hair flying, and sets to prove they're wrong.

When the eccentric old-timer Lars Moss is mysteriously murdered in the looming mountains above the Double Q, and a handsome Easterner, Alan Denton, enters Willa's life, everything becomes even more difficult.
