About This Book

Heather's talents as an artist won her the job of sketching the original splendors of Chisolm House. Cy Chisolm, the millionaire diamond miner, took a paternal interest in her and his nephew, Ev, took a romantic interest. Fred, the gardener, brought her beautiful bouquets every day, and Gil, the young novelist, was a pleasant companion on picnics and walks.

At first, everyone seemed to be a friend. Then a blackmailer's threats seemed to turn everyone into an enemy. Heater no longer trusted anyone -- she couldn't tell friend from foe!

DANGER BY SPECIAL DELIVERY…

CRACK! She was halfway across the room when something shot through the open half of the glass door. It lay on the floor, white. Was it a piece of paper?

Gingerly she picked up the object, a sheet of paper wrapped around a stone. She undid the paper and read the typewritten note:
"The bullet was just a warning. Be the first in the morning to get the rolled-up newspaper on the front steps. You'll find directions."
Heather dropped the note as if it had been hot. "The blackmailer" had shot at her!
WHAT COULD SHE DO?
