Dagmar Schultz just wants three simple things: to turn thirteen, find a boyfriend, and lead a wildly exciting secret life. Her birthday will come soon enough, but there's a pretty slim chance of finding a really cute guy in boring old New Berlin, Iowa.

When Dagmar's friend Shelley nabs the only half-decent boy in town, Dagmar responds by "inventing" a picture-perfect boyfriend named Doug. But what will happen when Shelley throws a date-party and everyone expects Dagmar to show up with Doug?
