Former Navy SEALs have started a diving club in Chicago obsessed with finding shipwrecks. There's a local legend one is laden with gold that can be traced back to the Capone era. Enter James O'Casey, aspiring newsman looking for his first break. The club enlists O'Casey to become their researcher and historian. He soon wonders if they want "facts" or a finely orchestrated scenario to substantiate heisted gold from a more contemporary era. Is the St. Elmo's Maritime Club of Chicago a gang of adventurers, thieves, or pirates? And is their invitation a setup to prime O'Casey for a scapegoat if their plans run afoul? Goats can't swim; O'Casey will take his chances with a backup plan and crew of his own. It's not only the gold that may not be what it's purported to be, every character O'Casey encounters has an alter ego—with a secret to hide.
