Gentlemen usually play cards to win, but Duvalier was playing to lose. In a twist on the tradition game, he and his cohorts agreed to unburden themselves of their unwanted possessions instead of gambling for gain. And Duvalier offered the most shocking wager of all, his maiden aunt.

The wicked wager offended the Earl of Rotherham, but he played along, and soon Miss Diana Wetherby, and her pet parrot Bijou, arrived on his doorstep. But the hazel-eyed spinster was not at all what he expected. In fact, her elegance and wit made her a true delight.
