About This Book

The Rasherhouse is the disturbing story of Mags, a healthy, naive 17 year-old incarcerated in Mountjoy Prison for a minor offence, but released only months later addicted to heroin. Her addiction leads her into a life of serious crime and eventual prostitution. Punctuating the tale of Mags' decline are the comments of a retired civil servant, who wishes to defend the prison system against the gruesome realities portrayed by the author's narrator. Raw and compelling, The Rasherhouse is a violent, bleak and harrowing look at the role of the prison system in today's growing drugs epidemic.
