Lady Anne Severne was incensed when her brother-in-law, the marquess of Crewe, accused her of being a trollop. He was convinced that Anne's husband had died in a duel while defending her honor. In reality, the errant spouse had paid for a gambling debt with his life.

But Anne was too proud to deny the scathing allegations. Instead she devised a scheme that would embroil the stiff-necked marquess in a most embarrassing scandal. If the plan succeeded, Crewe would suffer untold humiliation.
