The Prairie

Timeline: 1804. (Originally published 1827)

Ishmael, Ellen and Abiram make their way across the prairies looking for a homestead following the Louisiana Purchase. They meet a trapper named Natty Bumppo, who is also looking for a home. He has walked from the east to the Pacific Ocean. The trapper helps Ishmael relocate his wagons, including one carrying mysterious baggage.

American author James Fenimore Cooper (1789 â€"1851) wrote historical novels involving frontier life. The Last of the Mohicans. The Last of the Mohicans was made into a 1992 Hollywood film starring Daniel Day-Lewis. Other books by the same author include The Deerslayer and The Pathfinder.
