Christian Gillette, the dynamo chairman of a famous New York private equity firm, plans to open a new casino in Las Vegas and launch an NFL franchise. But the mob makes it clear that Christian will have to pay if he wants to play. To complicate matters, U.S. senator Jesse Ford, the odds-on favorite to make history as the first black president, taps Christian to be his running mate. But an influential Texas mogul has another fate in mind for Christian: to be part of a shadow organization powered by wealth and bound by dark secrets that has manipulated the course of American history for generations. As the twisted chain of intrigue, treachery, blackmail, and death is pulled tighter and tighter, Christian realizes - maybe too late - that in a grudge match between kingmakers bent on victory at all costs, he may be the last pawn sacrificed.
