In 1905 the Mezquita-Catedral showed serious weakness in a large part of its structure. When the state restored extensive portions of the foundation's underpinning, workers unearthed a lead canister, hidden behind loose stones. Tucked inside was an ancient manuscript, regarding an Inquisition of a man called Apuleius Balcoin. The proceedings began as normal, but torture could not force the suspect to confess. Baldino's short fiction turns a sixteenth century trial into a testament of faith.
