About This Book

The Pinocchios, a family tree cut apart into five logs by Tin Woodman, find themselves whisked from the Land of Oz by a cyclone and into the possession of the master craftsman, Geppetto in Italy. Discovering that these five logs can speak, Geppetto learns the three smaller logs are children and the two larger ones their parents. He carves the children into live puppets and the parents he fashions into Greek god candlesticks that can light their own candles. After the kidnap of the parents, the children seek the help of a detective agency, run by pipe-puffing Dorothy, a blind Scarecrow, and his seeing-eye dog Toto. The trail of the missing parents leads the group to the moors of Dartmoor, and eventually to the Whale Inn in New Bedford where the parents are perched on the tavern bar, forced to entertain gruff Caribbean pirates. With the unlikely presence of Tin Woodman and Lion, Dorothy plots a whacky and rousing rescue.
