Lewis Winslow has money and an elegant house, and the future of his business is looking bright. But on the home front, he has lost his beloved wife and is disappointed with the way his children are turning out. Josh cares for nothing but pleasure. Jenny is caught up in society, while her sister Kat resists anything that seems feminine. And then there's Hannah, who leads the life of a recluse.

But when the calendar reads October 1929, Lewis loses everything. The Winslows must change their priorities as individuals and as a family if they expect to survive. If they will let it, their unimagined pilgrimage could lead them out of a life of self-centered indulgence to their own land of promise.
